The ABCs of Grassroots Lobbying - A How-to Checklist
|
|
|
Introduction:
MHI-PAC’s government affairs program rests on three complementary pillars:
- Washington, D.C. – based representation - MHI-PAC, which supports candidates responsive to our association’s issue priorities - Grass-roots advocacy
Coordination of all three elements is the key to maximizing our effectiveness. Each has an important role to play:
Washington, D.C. – based staff works with the Manufactured Housing Institute Board to achieve our legislative goals and develop a long-term lobbying strategy. It communicates MHI’s interests to Congress and regulatory agencies and coordinates with other associations and corporate representatives to develop broad-based coalition efforts. It also keeps MHI members alerted to our legislative goals and develops opportunities to generate grass-roots support for our agenda.
MHI-PAC supports political candidates irrespective of party affiliation, based solely on their positions on issues affecting our industry and its members. MHI-PAC is supported through the voluntary contributions of MHI members. You may contribute up to $5,000 a year to MHI-PAC. The senior management of a MHI member company may also solicit voluntary contributions to MHI-PAC from administrative, supervisory and managerial personnel. MHI-PAC staff is ready to assist you in developing an employee campaign.
Grass-roots advocacy is powerful. As a constituent, a voter, a business and community leader, you have influence. Your contacts with Members of Congress, other officeholders, and candidates are the key to communicating the real world, hometown implications of the policy decisions they make. Your advocacy, therefore, plays a critical role in maximizing the impact of Manufactured Housing Institute’s Washington staff and MHI-PAC.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact MHI-PAC Director and Grassroots Activities, Rae Ann Bevington at (703) 558-0675 or RBevington@mfghome.org. Thanks for your good work!!
