5,769 New HUD-Code Homes Shipped in January 2016

In January 2016, 5,769 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 16.7 percent from January 2015, and an increase of 72 homes or 1.7 percent compared to December 2015. The trend reflected gains across the board, with shipments of single section and multi-section homes up by 9.2 percent and 23.7 percent respectively, compared with the same month last year. Total floors shipped in January 2016 were 8,998, an increase of 18.9 percent compared with January 2015.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 79,961 in January 2016, down 6.9 percent from the adjusted rate of 85,933 in December 2015. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.

The number of plants reporting production in January 2016 was 122, one greater than reported in December 2015. The number of active corporations was 36, unchanged from the previous month.
