6,813 New HUD-Code Homes Shipped in May 2016
In May 2016, 6,813 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 16.9 percent from May 2015, and an increase of 116 homes or 1.7 percent compared to April 2016. Compared with the same month last year, there were increases in home shipments across the board, with shipments of single section and multi-section homes up by 23.4 percent and 11.8 percent respectively. Total floors shipped in May 2016 were 10,528, an increase of 14.9 percent compared with May 2015.
Compared with the prior year, 2016 has recorded shipment increases in the first five months. Shipments from January through May this year totaled 32,496 homes compared with 27,247 homes in 2015, a net increase of 19.3 percent.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 75,122 in May 2016, up 2.9 percent from the adjusted rate of 73,024 in April 2016. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
The number of plants reporting production in May 2016 was 124, one greater than the previous month. The number of active corporations was 37, unchanged from the previous month.
