7,361 New HUD-Code Homes Shipped in June 2016

The June 2016 shipment number of 7,361 is worth noting as it marks the second time this year that monthly HUD-Code shipments have exceeded 7,000. The last time the month of June had over 7,000 homes ship was June of 2008. At the midpoint of the year, it is too soon to forecast year-end totals. However, the rolling six month average shipment number through June 2016 is now 6,643 versus 5,550 in June 2015.

In June 2016, 7,361 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 21.6 percent from June 2015, and an increase of 548 homes or 8.0 percent compared to May 2016. Compared with the same month last year, there were increases in home shipments across the board, with shipments of single section and multi-section homes up by 20.2 percent and 22.7 percent respectively. Total floors shipped in June 2016 were 11,542, an increase of 21.9 percent compared with June 2015.

Compared with the prior year, 2016 has recorded shipment increases in the first half of the year. Shipments from January through June this year totaled 39,857 homes compared with 33,302 homes in 2015, a net increase of 19.7 percent.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 82,077 in June 2016, up 9.3 percent from the adjusted rate of 75,122 in May 2016. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.

The number of plants reporting production in June 2016 was 124 and the number of active corporations was 37, both unchanged from the previous month.
