5,370 New HUD-Code Homes Shipped in July 2016
While the July 2016 shipment number of 5,370 is a decline from both the prior year and last month, the rolling six month average shipment number through July 2016 is now 6,576. Historically, shipments in the month of July are lower or flat from the preceding month and have historically increased in the following month. One month is not a trend.
In July 2016, 5,370 new manufactured homes were shipped, a decrease of 11.6 percent from July 2015, and a decrease of 1,991 homes or 27.0 percent compared to June 2016. Compared with the same month last year, there were reductions in home shipments, with shipments of single section homes down by 14.0 percent and shipments of multi-section homes down by 9.5 percent. Total floors shipped in July 2016 were 8,383, a decrease of 10.9 percent compared with July 2015.
Compared with the prior year, 2016 has recorded shipment increases overall for the first seven months of the year. Shipments from January through July this year totaled 45,227 homes compared with 39,375 homes in 2015, a net increase of 14.9 percent.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 67,499 in July 2016, down 17.8 percent from the adjusted rate of 82,077 in June 2016. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
The number of plants reporting production in July 2016 was 126, increased by two from the previous month. Reflecting only a change in reporting hierarchy, the number of active corporations was 34 for the month.
