In response to HUD’s proposed rule regarding changes to the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), MHI submitted a comment letter advocating for the usage of manufactured housing to achieve the program’s goals. The HOME program gives states and localities funds to produce and maintain affordable rental homes, provide tenant-based rental assistance to low-income households, and create affordable homeownership opportunities. In the letter, MHI requested that the HOME program guidelines specifically exempt HUD Code manufactured housing from any construction and safety requirements to prevent conflicting standards. Additionally, in terms of financing, MHI urged HUD to ensure that proper outreach and considerations are made for manufactured housing’s unique process. Finally, MHI encouraged careful consideration of possible conflicts in rental housing requirements.
