The New Democrat Coalition (New Dems) released its Housing Action Plan, which included supporting manufactured housing as a part of its recommendations for how the federal government can build more homes and lower housing costs. To increase housing availability, the New Dems recommended that federal standards support the availability of manufactured housing and that Congress should investigate amending the “permanent chassis” requirement. Furthermore, the plan recommended that HUD “streamline their standard setting to enhance energy efficiency and preserve affordability in consultation with its Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee.”

MHI worked to elevate manufactured housing with the coalition. MHI posted a response to the plan, applauding the manufactured housing recommendations presented. MHI will continue working with the New Democrat Coalition and Congress on a bipartisan basis to advance legislation to increase manufactured housing homeownership opportunities for working families.
