Government Task Force to Use Federal Lands for Affordable Housing

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner and U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretary Doug Burgum announced the creation of a Joint Task Force on Federal Land for Housing. This task force aims to increase housing supply and decrease costs by identifying underutilized federal lands suitable for residential development, streamlining the regulatory process of land transfers and leases, and uphold affordability goals and policies. With a focus on rural and tribal communities, the task force will balance responsible resource usage and preservation to bring affordable housing to those in need across the country.

MHI will engage with the task force to convey the benefits of including manufactured housing to address the housing shortage at an attainable cost.
