UMH Properties, Inc., which was organized in 1968, is a public equity REIT that owns and operates 135 manufactured home communities with approximately 25,800 developed homesites. These communities are located in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia. UMH also owns and operates two communities in Florida, containing 363 sites, through its joint venture with Nuveen Real Estate. UMH Properties, Inc. has contributed to the overall well-being of the industry by promoting manufactured housing to the investment community, government sponsored entities (GSEs), government officials, and to the general public. Throughout their website, annual reports, investor presentations, and conferences, they promote manufactured housing as the solution to the affordable housing crisis. Their vision statement in their annual report notes “manufactured home communities satisfy a fundamental need- quality affordable housing. As home prices continue to rise and available home inventory continues to shrink, they are committed to being a part of the solution to America’s affordable housing crisis.” Manufactured homes in professionally managed land-lease communities are a key component of this solution. Affordable housing has come to be recognized as a human right.
