The Volume Manufacturer of the Year Winner was awarded to Clayton Home Building Group. MHI announced the 2024 Excellence in Manufactured Housing Award recipients during the MHI Congress & Expo in Las Vegas.

Clayton Home Building Group is a values-based, single-family home builder who strives to “Open doors to a better life” for homeowners, team members, and the communities in which we live and work. In 2023, they constructed 47,200 off-site built (manufactured) homes.

During another year of rising home prices and interest rates, Clayton Home Building Group team members helped nearly 60,000 families achieve the dream of homeownership.

On July 10, 2023, Clayton Home Building Group introduced the highest performing, most energy efficient home we’ve ever built: the eBuilt® home. Built to the US Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home™ standards, eBuilt homes are so energy efficient, homeowners can reduce their annual energy bills by up to 50%1 and add a renewable solar energy system after purchase for even more savings.

eBuilt homes tackle the “hidden mortgage,” the financial burden many

families face when the cost of energy bills over time can be as much or more than the cost of the home itself. Clayton Home Building Group is the only large-scale off-site home builder offering homes built to Zero Energy Ready Home standards, and in most cases, at no additional cost to homeowners.

Thirty-nine Clayton home building facilities were awarded the 2023 ENERGY STAR® Residential New Construction Market Leader Award. In 2022, Clayton Home Building Group built 30,244 ENERGY STAR® certified homes. According to ENERGY STAR®, certified homes are at least 10 percent more energy efficient than those built to local and state code and achieve an average 20 percent energysaving improvement. ENERGY STAR® estimates the 30,244 certified homes Clayton Home Building Group built in 2022 will save Clayton homeowners $8.89 million in annual utility bills.

A new urban infill project in Atlanta, GA, featuring two Clayton CrossMod® homes demonstrates how flexible zoning policies can address the housing crisis in urban areas. Clayton Built® CrossMods blur the lines between off-site and site-built homes and are the first of their kind within the Atlanta city limits.

In 1972, Clayton’s first home building facility opened, TRU Halls. And in 2023, TRU Halls accomplished a true milestone – building its 50,000th TRU home. They celebrate TRU Halls team members for making homeownership attainable to 50,000 families for over half a century.

History was made in 2023 when Clayton’s first all-female driving team, consisting of two pilot drivers and one toter driver, pulled a Clayton home from its origin to destination. On December 18, Sherein Sumrall, Izabella Brunson and Kia Allison left Clayton Rockwell in North Carolina with the Sunrise, a home from Clayton’s Benchmark series, and delivered it to Clayton Homes of Florence, SC. At Clayton, they strive to provide boundless opportunities for all team members.

As part of a partnership between Clayton and Family Promise, an organization assisting families with children at risk of homelessness, Clayton donates new homes to be used as transitional housing for families seeking to rebuild their lives. This year, Clayton donated its fifteenth home to a Family Promise affiliate in Marysville, OH.
