Last week, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing addressing homebuyers’ current challenges and characteristics. During the hearing, Rep. Mike Flood (NE-1) raised the lack of housing being built for middle-income people and how manufactured housing has an important role here. Rep. Flood concluded by asking city leaders who effectively use manufactured housing in a development to reach out to his office. MHI will continue the conversation with lawmakers to further awareness of the importance of manufactured housing to addressing the country’s housing supply shortage.

California Regulator Extends Mitigation Fee for Manufactured Home Furnaces

On Friday, January 9, California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SC AQMD) unanimously approved (11–0) an extension of the mitigation fee for manufactured homes to comply with the low nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions limit of 14 nanograms per joule (ng/J) for natural gas central furnaces. The new deadline is September 30, 2030.

MHCC Unanimously Adopts Recommendations on DOE’s Manufactured Housing Energy Standards

The Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC) met January 27–28 to respond to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) effort to reconsider its 2022 Energy Conservation Standards for manufactured housing. DOE issued what it calls a “Request for Information,” essentially asking for feedback as the Administration reevaluates the flawed DOE Final Rule and the way DOE conducted its rulemaking and analysis.
