MHI has engaged in several state legislatures to fend off numerous proposed bills that would negatively impact the preservation of the land-lease communities model. From rent control proposals to various approaches to erode private ownership of communities, MHI is working to ensure that state legislators understand the benefits of the land-lease community model and the negative impacts of proposed legislation.

In New Mexico, MHI partnered with community owners to stop proposed legislation during this legislative cycle. Other state legislatures are still in session, and under the leadership of MHI’s National Communities Council, MHI continues to engage to ensure that policymakers across the country understand the value of land-lease communities and the impact of misleading proposals being put forward that are ultimately detrimental to community residents. MHI offers members access to BillTrack50, a legislation and regulation AI-powered search engine that you can customize to monitor the bills that matter to you in all 50 state legislatures.
