Each year at MHI’s Annual Meeting, we celebrate the achievements of exceptional professionals during the Awards Dinner. The Chairman’s Award honors individuals for their exceptional leadership, service and commitment to MHI. The MHI Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual for their outstanding accomplishments and years of dedication to both the industry and MHI. This year’s MHI Lifetime Achievement Award winner is the fifth person to receive this honor.

The 2024 recipients will be recognized at the MHI Annual Meeting Awards Dinner on September 24 in Phoenix, AZ.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Jess Maxcy, president and CEO of the California Manufactured Housing Institute (CMHI), will be honored with MHI’s Lifetime Achievement Award. His manufactured housing career spans more than 60 years. It includes roles in production, quality control, industrial engineering, cost accounting, material management, general management, division vice president and director of operations, and association leader representing the industry.

Maxcy helped found the California Manufactured Housing Institute, where he wrote the bylaws and served as the organization’s first president and CEO. He crafted and successfully lobbied for laws that eliminated discrimination against manufactured housing, allowed the transport of 16-foot-wide manufactured homes in California and improved protections for consumers and lenders. He was the first President of CMHI’s charitable arm, which has donated homes and money to those in need for the past 25 years. Maxcy has served as a board member of the Manufactured Housing Educational Institute for more than 15 years.

“For decades, Jess has selflessly shared his experience and expertise with MHI’s staff and membership and mentored other state association executives,” said Mark Bowersox, MHI president. “His commitment to collaboration ensures a lasting legacy.”

Maxcy’s past honors include the Redman Industries Presidential Ring of Honor, the CMHI President’s Award, certificates of appreciation from the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, the Manufactured Housing Executives Council State Association Executive of the Year and Excellence in Communication awards, and CMHI’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Chairman’s Award

Karl Radde, owner and general manager of Southern Comfort Homes, a Bryan, Texas-based retail dealership, will be honored with the Manufactured Housing Institute’s 2024 Chairman’s Award. Radde has been an active member of MHI, serving in numerous volunteer roles since 2012.

Radde serves as the 2024 chair of the Manufactured Housing Educational Institute and vice chair of MHI’s Federated States Board of Governors and the National Retailers Council. He is the Texas Manufactured Housing Association’s (TMHA) certified representative to MHI and a strong supporter of MHI’s political action committee.

“Karl’s dedication to the industry is unwavering,” said Bill Boor, 2024 MHI Chairman and president and CEO of Cavco Industries, Inc. “Karl has spent countless hours strategizing over legislative language and the political action committee, testifying at state hearings and advocating for the industry at the federal, state and local level.”

Radde won MHInsider’s Advocacy Award in 2021.

Celebrate the achievements and impact of these two industry leaders at the Awards Dinner during MHI’s Annual Meeting.
