Doug Gorman

It is with deep sadness that MHI mourns the passing of Doug Gorman, a towering figure in the manufactured housing industry for more than five decades. His 55-year career shaped the future of attainable housing, from leading retail operations to improving countless lives through his unwavering commitment to helping families find quality homes.

As founder of Tulsa-based Home‑Mart—later acquired and rebranded as Freedom Homes—Gorman built one of the nation’s most respected retail operations, earning MHI’s Retailer of the Year award ten times. His leadership extended far beyond business success. Gorman represented retailers at state and federal levels, served on the inaugural HUD Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee, and was inducted into the RV/MH Hall of Fame in 2012.

Doug Gorman leaves behind a legacy defined by a passion for industry innovation, customer-focused service and creating housing opportunities that make a difference.
